MADISON — One person was killed early Monday morning in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 55 in Madison, according to the Madison Police Department.
Police and the Madison Fire Department responded about 1:35 a.m. to a report of a crash on Interstate 55 southbound near mile marker 109.
Investigators said a Volkswagen Passat left the roadway, traveled into the center median and struck an embankment in the drainage ditch between the northbound and southbound Interstate 55 bridges.
The driver, who was the vehicle’s sole occupant, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities are withholding the victim’s identity pending notification of next of kin.
The crash remains under investigation by the Madison Police Department.
