Jason Shamont GreenVAIDEN — A 43-year-old man accused of making threats to shoot and kill Carroll County sheriff’s deputies is being held without bond following his arrest on a federal weapons charge, authorities said.
Jason Schamont Green, who authorities said has ties to the Vaiden and Southaven areas, was arrested Aug. 12 in Vaiden after a federal grand jury indicted him on a charge of possession of a weapon by a felon.
The case began July 6, when the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office became aware of a video circulating widely on social media in which Green allegedly made threats against the sheriff’s office and expressed a desire to shoot and kill deputies.
Deputies obtained a warrant charging Green with making terroristic threats toward law enforcement.
On July 17, the U.S. Marshals Service arrested Green in Memphis, Tennessee. Authorities said Green was found with a firearm at the time of his arrest, leading the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to pursue a federal firearms charge.
Green was booked into the Carroll County Regional Correctional Facility on July 31 on the state charge and released later that day on an $80,000 bond.
A federal grand jury indicted Green on Aug. 6 on the charge of possession of a weapon by a felon. The U.S. Marshals Service and Carroll County Sheriff’s Office arrested him six days later in Vaiden.
Following a federal detention hearing, Green was ordered held without bond and remains jailed in Oxford, according to the sheriff’s office.
Carroll County Sheriff Clint Walker said authorities take threats against law enforcement seriously.
“I thank the Lord for keeping our deputies and the other law enforcement officers involved safe,” Walker said. “We take very seriously the safety of our deputies and will prosecute to the fullest extent of the law those who threaten our lives.”
Walker also thanked the U.S. Marshals Service, ATF, U.S. Attorney’s Office and other agencies involved in the investigation and arrests.
