LEE COUNTY — A 25-year-old Nettleton man has been charged with two counts of sexual battery of a child under 14 following an investigation into alleged abuse involving a child younger than 6, Lee County Sheriff Jim Johnson said in a Facebook release Tuesday.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office said it was notified by Child Protective Services of possible sexual abuse involving a young child. The agency’s Criminal Investigation Division launched an inquiry, during which allegations of sexual assault against a child surfaced.
Johnson alleged that Casey Drake Moore committed sexual acts against the child on at least two occasions in Lee County. Authorities also developed information suggesting a similar incident may have occurred in another jurisdiction and said they are sharing information with officials there to assist in a separate investigation.
Moore was arrested Feb. 13 and charged with two counts of sexual battery of a child under 14. A Lee County Justice Court judge set his bond at $500,000.
The investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges may be filed as new information becomes available.
The sheriff’s office expressed appreciation to Child Protective Services and the Easter Seals of Mississippi Child Advocacy Center for their assistance in the case.
