The MSDH Public Health Laboratory has just confirmed the first four West Nile Virus human cases in Mississippi for this year.
The cases were found in Hinds, Jackson and Lamar counties.
MSDH said that peak West Nile Virus season can run through October, so take sensible precautions against mosquitoes that spread the virus.
While symptoms are usually mild, it’s possible to develop serious illness from WNV infection.
It can be life-threatening for older adults and those in poor health, and can cause long-lasting neurological damage.
