The 28-year-old mother might have been missing for as long as 10 days when she was reported.

Jessie Barnes was last seen the afternoon of July 7, 2000, at a family member’s home in the 800 block of Little Street in West Point in Clay County. She was reported missing by her family when she didn’t attend her grandmother’s funeral.

At the time of her disappearance, Barnes had a young daughter. Her family says that it was not unlike her to go a few days without contact but it was very unlike her to not make contact with family for over a week.

Before she disappeared, Barnes told her sister that a man threatened her with a knife but she was unable to recall the man’s name. It is unclear whether or not this is in any way related to her disappearance. According to the Charley Project, “Barnes is mentally disabled. She can’t remember names or numbers very well and has a very trusting nature as a result of her disability.”

Jessie Barnes is 5’5″, 130 pounds. She was last seen wearing a white t-shirt and a denim dress or jumper. Her family says she has a bite mark on her neck, a scar below her right knee, and a burn scar on her lower back.
