An inmate in the Central Mississippi Correctional Center has died of a drug overdose.
MDOC Commissioner Burl Cain reported Friday that an inmate died Thursday, Sept. 5, 2024, at the facility in Rankin County. Corrections officers reported the incident at approximately 2:41 p.m. Inmate Juan Gonzalez, No. 243255, died of an apparent substance overdose.
Because of the unknown nature of the substance, the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency and the Mississippi Department of Health were notified. The investigation is ongoing.
