A man trapped in his vehicle after a wreck was saved due to the quick response of first responders.
At approximately 3:41 p.m., Collins Fire Department units were dispatched to a report of a one-vehicle accident on Hwy. 84 West, near Leaf River Church Road.
Collins Fire Department units responding were Heavy Rescue 12, Engine 1, FD-1 with 8 Personnel.
Upon arrival, crews realized the driver was trapped. The incident required a very detailed approach and efforts to safely extricate the entrapped victim and prevent the risk of further injury.
Collins Fire Department Personnel utilized numerous techniques, tools & equipment to perform the detailed extrication effort. This was truly a very technical and tedious extrication/rescue.
“Firefighters literally used “Every Tool in the Box” to safely & successfully complete the mission and task.”
EMS provided immediate on-scene treatment to the victim and then transferred him to the Air Ambulance for transport to an area trauma center for advanced treatment & care.
The fire department said the only reason this had a positive outcome was because of the combined efforts of all responding agencies.
“This afternoon the system worked just as it should, seamlessly!”
Those who responded to the scene were City of Collins Fire Department, Covington Co. Hospital EMS, Rescue 7/SEMAAD, Covington County EMA, Covington Co. Sheriff’s Dept, and Mississippi Highway Patrol.
