Man Found Dead In Driveway Of D’Iberville Home

Morgan Howard

On June 20, at approximately 8:20 p.m., the D’Iberville Police Department responded to reports of gunshots in the 11000 block of Gorenflo Road.

When officers arrived, they found 53-year-old Alton Eugene Parker, from D’Iberville, deceased in the driveway.

Initial investigation revealed that minutes before the report of gunshots on Gorenflo Road, an officer had responded to an incident on Rodriguez Street and Automall Parkway.

A witness reported that while traveling on Rodriguez Street, a blue truck stopped beside him, and the driver began making threats. As the witness continued onto Automall Parkway, the suspect fired two shots at his vehicle. Neither the witness nor the vehicle was struck by gunfire.

While investigating the scene on Gorenflo Road, officers identified the vehicle the deceased victim arrived in as a blue pickup truck, matching the description of the vehicle involved in the Rodriguez Street incident. Despite the similarities, the two incidents were found to be unrelated.

Information obtained at the scene indicated an ongoing dispute between the victim, Parker, and the homeowner. Officers learned that Parker had threatened the homeowner in the past. On the night of the incident, Parker arrived at the home with a firearm and displayed it in a threatening manner, which led to the shooting.

Several individuals, including the homeowner, were transported to the police department for questioning. After conducting interviews and reviewing surveillance video from the area, it was determined that Parker had brandished a firearm before being shot. Parker died at the scene from a single gunshot wound.

No charges have been filed at this time, and the investigation is ongoing.
