On Sunday night, 23-year-old Luis Morales from Guatemala was arrested by Pontotoc County patrol deputies.

He was charged with domestic violence against his girlfriend and obstructing emergency services after allegedly preventing her from calling 911 for law enforcement and medical assistance.

Following the arrest, the Special Victims Unit of the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) initiated an investigation into Morales and the incident. Due to Morales not having a Social Security number, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) was contacted to determine his immigration status. ICE confirmed that Morales is in the country legally on a work visa.

A Pontotoc County Justice Court has set bond for Morales as the investigation continues.
