On Monday, May 27, Troopers with the Mississippi Highway Patrol were conducting a safety checkpoint on Highway 25 in Dennis, MS.
During the checkpoint, a four-wheeler approached and led the Troopers on a pursuit.
The driver of the four-wheeler, Ricky Don Thorn of Dennis, MS, began driving on the railroad tracks and Troopers continued pursuing on foot.
During the pursuit, a Trooper located the four-wheeler on the railroad tracks. Thorn then drove the four-wheeler into the Trooper causing injury.
The Trooper was transported to the hospital and later released.
After the Trooper was struck, a Conservation Officer with the Mississippi Department of Wildlife Fisheries and Parks located the four-wheeler abandoned near the railroad tracks.
Special Agents with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, Agents with the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, Officers with the Belmont Police Department, and Deputies with the Tishomingo County Sheriff’s Office joined in the search for Thorn.
On Wednesday May 29, Thorn was located in the woods between County Road 23 and the Natchez Trace Parkway by Conservation Officers with the Mississippi Department of Wildlife Fisheries and Parks, Agents with the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, Constable Donald Ray Thomas, and Deputies with the Tishomingo County Sheriff’s Department.
Thorn was taken into custody without incident and was transported to the Tishomingo County Jail.
He was charged with two counts of Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer and one count of Felony Fleeing by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
Thorn is currently incarcerated in the Tishomingo County Jail. Tishomingo County Justice Court Judge Seth Adams set Thorn’s bond at $60,000.
