UPDATE: Police identified the victim as 51-year-old Ira D. Fuquay of Canton, MS.

One person was killed in a crash on I-55 in Madison overnight.

On Thursday at 10:23 PM, the Madison Police Department was notified of a one-car traffic crash on Interstate 55 northbound near mile marker 109.  Upon the arrival of police officers and fire personnel, first responders discovered that a Honda Accord automobile had left the roadway entering into the center median area where it overturned.  The driver of the Honda Accord was ejected during the traffic crash and was deceased on the scene.  There were no other occupants in the vehicle and no other vehicles were involved in the traffic crash.

Witnesses reported the vehicle was traveling northbound on the Interstate when it suddenly left the roadway entering into the center median area.  Upon crossing the median, the vehicle struck a concrete barrier at the opposite southbound lanes.  The vehicle overturned in the median as a result of the accident.

The crash is currently under investigation by fatality crash investigators from the Madison Police Department Traffic Division.
