List Of School Closings Ahead Of Hurricane Francine

Hurricane Francine

Tropical Storm Francine is expected to hit Mississippi with rain beginning this evening. Here is a list of school districts and colleges/universities that are closing ahead of the storm.

Governor Tate Reeves declared a State of Emergency in preparation for the storm. 

School Districts closed Thursday:

Biloxi School District

Brookhaven School District

All schools within the Catholic Diocese of Biloxi

The Bay St. Louis-Waveland School District

Canton Public School District

Clinton Public School District

Copiah County School District

Coast Episcopal School in Long Beach

George County School District

Gulfport School District

Hancock County School District

Harrison County School District

Hinds County School District

Humphrey’s County School District

Jackson Public School District

  • All extracurricular activities also cancelled

Jackson County School District is closed Wednesday and leadership will be evaluating to see if they will open Thursday.

Lawrence County School District

Lincoln County School District

Madison County School District

  • All after school activities cancelled today and tomorrow
  • No distance learning

Magnolia Speech School in Madison Co.

Manchester Academy

McComb School District

Natchez-Adams School District

Natchez Options

Ocean Springs School District is closed Wednesday and they will make a decision for Thursday sometime this evening.

Pascagoula-Gautier School District is closed today (Wednesday) and a decision will be made by 6:00 p.m. if schools will remain closed Thursday

Pass Christian School District

Pearl Public School District

  • Extracurricular activities also cancelled

Pontotoc City School District

Rankin County School District

Simpson County School District

Smith County School District

South Pike School District

St. Andrews Episcopal School (not closed, but delayed 2 hours)

SR1 College Preparatory and STEM Academy

The Redeemer’s School

Wilkinson County School District (not closed, but delayed until 9:30 a.m.)

  • School board meeting rescheduled for September 18

Yazoo City Municipal School District

Yazoo County School District

Colleges/Universities:

Belhaven University

  • Closed Thursday, Residence halls remain open, dining is available

Delta Technical College

Hinds Community College

  • Closed Wednesday for classes that start at 3:30 p.m. or later

The University of Southern Mississippi

  • Closed Thursday until noon in all Hattiesburg and Coast locations

William Carey University

  • All locations will close Wednesday including campuses in Tradition/Biloxi, Hattiesburg and Baton Rouge. A decision on campus closures for Thursday will be made Wednesday evening.
