According to Sheriff Johnson with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, a man was arrested after he voluntarily came into the Sheriff’s Office.
On August 14, Charles Lee Smith of Liberty Church Road in Itawamba County voluntarily came to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office and requested to speak with an investigator.
During his meeting with one of the investigators, Smith volunteered that he had been viewing child sexual abuse material (CSAM) and that he had brought several electronic devices with him that he said contained child pornography.
He also disclosed that he is currently under investigation in another jurisdiction for touching a child for lustful purposes.
During this investigation, his claims were confirmed, and child pornography was discovered on his electronic devices. Warrants were issued for his arrest for three charges of possession of child pornography. This case will be presented to the Lee County Grand Jury, and more charges may be forthcoming due to the nature of the allegations.
Sheriff Lee said,
“We would like to thank the Itawamba County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in getting him into custody in their county.”
Smith is currently awaiting transport from the Itawamba County Jail to the Lee County Jail where an initial appearance and bond before a justice court judge will take place.
38-year-old Charles Lee Smith is being charged with 3 counts of Possession of Child Pornography.
