RANKIN COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI – Because Firehouse Subs exists, Rankin County is just a little safer today.

Langford Volunteer Fire Department was named a 2024 grant recipient by Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation® earlier this year, receiving $29,855 to ensure the Langford Fire Protection District is safer than ever with three air packs and five air cylinders for the department and will ensure our community is better prepared for emergencies.

“Every day we work to make our department stronger so that we can protect our community to our utmost ability,” said Chief Shane Adams. “I can’t tell you how critical this equipment is to our department. It’s very expensive. The award in this grant alone is more than we bring in in a year in the fundraisers that we do, and we have some good fundraisers and a lot of community support.”

The presentation was made Thursday at the Flowood location. Firefighters were treated to an early Firehouse lunch after the presentation.

“We are committed to helping organizations such as Langford Volunteer Fire Department continue their lifesaving work. We are honored to be able to award this grant and do our part to ensure the Langford Fire Protection District is safer for everyone, including first responders,” said Robin Peters, Executive Director, Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation.

Firehouse subs was founded by two brothers who were firefighters from Jacksonville, Florida, and in 2005 they loaded a bus with food and supplies to take to New Orleans to feed first responders. They got as far as Waveland, Mississippi, and that experience inspired them to start the Firehouse Public Safety Foundation, which has been committed to getting resources to first responder groups.

The purchase of three air packs and five air cylinders will be used in firefighting and lifesaving efforts, allowing firefighters to breathe fresh air as they fight fires and deal with things like gas leaks and hazardous materials.

Flowood franchise owner William Craig said being able to give the gear to a local fire department is “the heart of Firehouse subs and an authentic part of who we are and what we do.”

“It’s a worthy cause and I’m glad for these events because I don’t think nearly enough people know about the work that’s being done for departments just like yours that are integral to the communities where we operate,” Craig said. “This is just very meaningful and I’m so glad we’re able to provide this donation for this much-needed equipment.”

For the past 18 years, charitable donations have been the driving force behind Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation® supporting first responders and public safety organizations nationwide. Adams thanked his firefighters, the Board of Supervisors, Rankin EOC, and Firehouse Subs for the work that has gone into the whole situation.
