Early in the morning on September 19, a high-speed chase involving a stolen vehicle ended with the arrest of two suspects, thanks mostly to K9 Teun of the Hinds County Sheriff’s Office.

Detective Coty Hamilton and K9 Teun responded to help a Florence Police officer who had pursued the stolen vehicle along the Interstate 55 frontage road in Byram.

The vehicle, which had managed to evade arrest in previous pursuits, crashed, and the suspects fled on foot.

Detective Hamilton deployed K9 Teun to track the suspects while the Clinton Police Department’s UAV/drone team provided aerial support using a thermal drone. After tracking for approximately 600 yards, the drone team identified the suspects hiding in dense brush along a creek bank.

K9 Teun was sent into the thick brush, where he successfully located and apprehended the first suspect. As officers worked to take the individual into custody, the second suspect, who was hiding nearby, attempted to flee. K9 Teun immediately released the first suspect and captured the second, holding him until officers arrived to make the arrest.

The suspects were identified as 23-year-old Xavier Washington and 20-year-old Isaiah Wooten, both from Jackson. Washington was also wanted on charges of felony fleeing and receiving stolen property.
