According to WLBT, a preliminary hearing Thursday explained the reason for the fight that lead to a Jackson State University student’s death.
Hinds County Prosecutor Gerald Mumford said that after listening to testimonies, a fight about doughnuts allegedly caused the two students to fight.
20-year-old Randall Smith, from New Orleans, shot and killed 22-year-old Flynn Brown of New Jersey.
The shooting happened December 2, and Smith placed Brown’s body inside a Dodge Challenger parked on campus.
Smith’s bond was set at $200,000. He is not allowed to possess weapons and must wear an ankle monitor.
According to the Hinds County prosecutor, Smith says that the shot in self-defense. However, Smith was 5’4″ and Brown was 6’2″.
WLBT reports that Smith waived extradition to Louisiana.
