Jackson State University’s Tiger Food Pantry is set to receive a $40,000 donation from Kroger’s Delta Division.

The grocery chain has provided over $60,000 to the university since 2020 to support its Zero Hunger Zero Waste Foundation commitment to create communities free of hunger and waste for a better future.

Jackson State and Kroger will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony on campus to celebrate the newly adopted food pantry on Wednesday, March 27th, at 12:00pm. Community members are encouraged to attend.

“We recognize the critical importance of ensuring that all students have access to nutritious meals, as food insecurity can hinder their academic success and overall well-being. Kroger’s support enables us to expand the services of our Tiger Food Pantry, providing students in need with essential food items and resources. Their partnership exemplifies the spirit of community and collaboration, and we are incredibly grateful for their generosity,” said JSU President Marcus Thompson, Ph.D.

The Kroger Co. Zero Hunger | Zero Waster Foundation supports nonprofit organizations, social entrepreneurs and creative thinkers focused on improving good security, ending food waste and more. The foundation cares for the communities we call home one meal at a time and is guided by Enabling Collective Action, Catalyzing Innovation and Creating a More Equitable Food System.

“Nearly 40% of college students experience food insecurity across the country each day. As good corporate citizens in the community, we continue to invest in organizations that align with our purpose to Feed the Human Spirit,” said Micheal Cristal, president of Kroger’s Delta Division.

Kroger associates volunteered to restock the Tiger Food Pantry, ensuring students have access to free meals throughout the spring and summer semesters.

Kroger customers interested in supporting the Jackson State Tiger Food Pantry can donate through the Community Rewards program here and select Jackson State University. Enrolled customers can view their earned contributions quarterly by logging in to their Kroger digital accounts.
