Agents with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation are investigating after a Jackson police officer fired his weapon at a suspect who was allegedly trying to hit him with a vehicle.

Bailey Martin, press secretary for the Mississippi Department of Public Safety, said the shooting occurred near Jamestown Way early Sunday.

According to Martin, Jackson police responded to a call for service. When officers arrived at the location, investigators said an officer walked towards the scene when the suspect attempted to strike the officer with his vehicle.

Martin said the officer discharged his weapon and shot the suspect, who received non-life threatening injuries. The officer involved in the shooting did not receive any serious physical injuries.

Once MBI agents complete their investigation, they will share their findings with the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office.
