The Indianola Fire Department responded to a water flow alarm Wednesday at South Sunflower County Hospital.

Around 6:30 p.m., a small fire in an emergency department treatment room set off the fire suppression sprinkler in that room, resulting in water damage to the emergency department.

Because of the high hazard occupancy of the building, Sunflower County Emergency Management also responded to the incident. Emergency Management officers worked with South Sunflower County Hospital administration to activate the hospital’s Emergency Operations Plan so that hospital operations could continue.

No evacuations were necessary. Emergency Management established a temporary response protocol should any other incidents occur at the hospital while recovery efforts continued.
