A Hinds County Sheriff’s Department deputy hit and killed a pedestrian on Siwell Road in Jackson.

The Sheriff’s Department said the deputy was in a county vehicle driving north on Siwell Road just north of Willowood Blvd when they hit a pedestrian, fatally wounding him.

The crash is being investigated by the MS Highway Patrol. The deputy is being taken to the hospital for minor injuries.

A black Chevrolet Tahoe was being driven by the deputy. The accident was reported at 6:15 p.m.

Next of kin has been notified, and the deceased will be disclosed soon.
