A 16-year-old Gulfport teen, Terrence Young, Jr., has died following a shooting early Monday morning, according to Harrison County Coroner Brian Switzer.

WLOX reports that Young was airlifted to USA Health in Mobile after the shooting but was taken off life support on Tuesday.

Gulfport Police responded to the shooting at approximately 12:04 a.m. near Indiana Avenue and Jackson Street, where officers found Young with a gunshot wound. He was initially taken to a local hospital before being airlifted to Mobile.

Young, who had recently transferred from West Harrison High School to Gulfport High School, was remembered by his peers after the Gulfport School District informed the student body of his passing on Wednesday morning.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
