The George County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting that took place Thursday on a sandbar along the Escatawpa River near Baxter Avenue.
Deputies responded to reports of gunfire in that area.
The victim, who has not been identified, sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to USA Hospital. Medical personnel have reported that the victim is expected to make a full recovery after undergoing surgery.
In a related incident, the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office reported a separate shooting in their jurisdiction around the same time. The suspect involved in the George County shooting also suffered gunshot wounds in the Mobile County incident. Authorities are currently investigating the connection between the two shootings.
The George County Sheriff’s Office is working closely with the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office to determine the circumstances surrounding both incidents. Sheriff Mitchell Mixon urged the public to remain calm and patient as the investigation continues.
