State Auditor Shad White announced today that Special Agents from his office have arrested Charles Roberts, a former alderman for the city of Horn Lake, on one count of Fraudulent Statements and Representations.

Roberts is accused of unlawfully receiving unemployment benefits while still employed as an alderman and failing to disclose his income.

The case has been turned over to the DeSoto County District Attorney’s Office.

If convicted, Roberts faces up to $10,000 in fines and five years in prison.

The investigation underscores the commitment of state officials to holding public officials accountable for defrauding taxpayers.
