Five People, Including Two Children Shot On Easter In Jackson Park

Five people were shot during a birthday party at a park in Jackson last night.

On March 31, at 8:00 p.m. JPD Precinct 3 Officers responded to the report of a shooting intent at Mary C. Jones Park located at the corner of Martin Luther King Blvd and Brown/Yates Streets.

When officers arrived, they found four gunshot victims; two adults (including the suspect) and two juveniles. All victims were transported to UMMC where they were treated for gunshot wounds. It was later discovered that a fifth victim (an adult) was also struck during the shooting.

According to witnesses, the shooting happened during a birthday party at the park.

Witnesses told police that the suspect got into an altercation with one of the victims and during the altercation, the suspect 19-year-old black female Zykia Winford pulled a handgun from her purse and began firing, striking her intended victim, four bystanders and herself. Suspect is being charged with four (4) counts of Aggravated Assault.
