Our Darkhorse Dog of the Week is Tao.
This loving dog was found abandoned at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, nestled on a quiet country road near Hickory Flat in Benton County.
This sweet boy is older and in desperate need of a safe place to lay his head.
He has fought to survive for so long, and in his old age he would love a family to finally call his own.
Tao was abandoned at this small, rural church with a small congregation who, despite their best efforts, cannot provide him with the permanent home he deserves.
Tao arrived at the church in poor condition—severely malnourished, suffering from mange, and limping badly. Despite his difficult start, the kind-hearted church members have been taking turns caring for him. They’ve provided Tao with food, temporary shelter on the church steps, and plenty of love and attention, but his lonely nights and days spent waiting for a home are taking their toll.
Since his arrival, Tao has shown incredible resilience. Thanks to the congregation’s care, he has started gaining weight, and his limp is improving. A local activist has also stepped forward, offering to have Tao’s leg checked and his vaccinations administered, which will happen this week. Church members are doing their best to treat his mange with over-the-counter products, but Tao needs professional veterinary care to fully recover.
Tao’s transformation has been heartwarming. As his health improves, his true personality is beginning to shine. This senior dog, with his white face and soulful eyes, has shown a playful side that melts hearts. He loves to cuddle, showering anyone who shows him affection with kisses. He has a special bond with children and elderly church members, and his gentle nature makes him a joy to be around.
Despite having toys to play with, Tao’s favorite pastime is playing with a simple brick he found in the churchyard. He also loves car rides and responds with joy to being told he is “a good boy,” his tail wagging furiously every time.
Although Tao did not react well to a potential adopter’s dog during a recent meet and greet, he showed a friendly disposition towards their cat. This senior dog needs a home where he can be the center of attention, either as an only pet or with a compatible companion.

Tao has been through so much, yet his spirit remains unbroken. He is ready to give his love to a family who will appreciate his gentle nature and provide him with the comfort and security he needs in his golden years.
