At approximately 2:25 p.m., the Clarke County Sheriff’s Office contacted MBI after correctional officers discovered the inmate in an unresponsive state. Emergency medical services were summoned immediately, but the inmate was pronounced dead at the scene.

Preliminary reports suggest that the death was due to natural causes.

The body has been transported to the state medical examiner for an autopsy to confirm the cause of death. The identity of the deceased is being withheld until next of kin can be notified.

Sheriff Anthony C. Chancelor stated that the Clarke County Sheriff’s Office is fully cooperating with MBI’s investigation. All inquiries related to the case will be directed to MBI.
