A California man is behind bars after police say he was caught trying to move a large amount of marijuana.

On Tuesday, April 9, 2024, Harrison County Sheriff Matt Haley announced the arrest of 42-year-old Oscar Sanchez, of Orland, California. Sanchez was charged with felony Trafficking of a Controlled Substance.

On April 9, 2024, at approximately 6:42 pm, a Harrison County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Interdiction Deputy conducted a traffic stop on a blue Kenworth semi pulling a box trailer on Interstate 10 East at the 30 Mile-Marker in Gulfport, Mississippi, for a careless driving violation.

During the investigation, the Deputy conducted a search of the semi-truck and trailer that revealed a suspicious crate in the cargo that was not consistent with the remainder of the load.

The crate contained several packages of high-grade marijuana. Investigating deputies determined the packages weighed approximately (300) pounds and had a street value in excess of $500,000.00.

Sanchez was arrested and charged with Trafficking of a Controlled Substance, marijuana. Sanchez was transported and booked into the Harrison County Jail held in lieu of a $250,000 surety bond set by Harrison County Justice Court Judge Albert J. Fountain.
