On Tuesday afternoon (October 1), the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department became aware of a violent threat made against a prosecutor by a former defendant.

The Sheriff’s Department opened an investigation and identified the suspect as 29-year-old Justin Allen Fowler.

Due to Fowler’s history of violent offenses, investigators moved swiftly to secure an arrest warrant through the Rankin County Court. A “Be On the Look Out” (B.O.L.O.) alert was issued to the Brandon Police Department and other agencies within Rankin County.

On October 2, deputies executed a search warrant at a residence in Brandon, but Fowler was not located, leading investigators to believe he had fled before law enforcement entered the property.

While canvassing the area, deputies spotted Fowler’s vehicle on North Street near the Rankin County Justice Court. A search of the vicinity ultimately resulted in Fowler being taken into custody without incident.

Fowler now faces charges of Retaliation Against a Prosecutor.

This investigation is ongoing.
