After searching for several days, the sheriff of Lee County said that they located a body in Dugger Creek about a mile downstream from the bridge on County Road 2578.
This is close to where the victim was last seen in the Pratts area.
The body was found around 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Lee County Deputies and other personnel were dispatched to the scene, and coordinated with the searchers, to recover the body of the victim.
The body that was recovered was positively identified as Josh Mallett.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Dept. said they wanted to send their heartfelt condolences to the victim’s family for their loss in this tragedy.
They also thanked the Mississippi Dept. of Wildlife Fisheries and Parks, the Tupelo Fire Dept Swift Water Rescue Team, the Emergency Management Agencies from Lee and Itawamba Counties, the Itawamba County Sheriff’s Dept., the numerous unnamed volunteer fire department personnel, and the volunteer searchers that worked tirelessly.
