Beside Still Waters: Where your treasure is

“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” – Luke 12:34

The Bible talks a lot about treasure, and it talks about it from two distinct angles: It says your treasures will be destroyed, and it tells you to gather up treasures. The important distinction? Heaven.

We all have things we treasure here on earth. For me, it’s my faith in Christ, my family (including pets), certain pieces of my Mom’s jewelry, my truck, and a few other things I’m sure I’m not thinking about off the top of my head. But think about this… if an enormous fire or hurricane came through and took everything I have, what would be left?

Faith. God. That’s all.

I’m not saying that makes me anything special. It’s only been in the last year or two that I’ve actually HONESTLY prioritized my faith. I always thought I did — “Hey God, I give you this relationship so Your will can be done” actually translated to, “Hey God, I’m saying I give you this relationship so you can make it happen the way I want it to and I can be happy.” Now it’s legitimate: “Lord, do your will. I don’t want to disrespect you by putting someone else on your throne ever again.”

If you’ve ever put a relationship or a business or anything else actively before God, you might have noticed how hard it gets. He’s got to be first.

Think about it. Where is your treasure? I encourage you to be very, very real with yourself and write down your five top priorities, then scratch out everything that could be destroyed by fire, pestilence, plague, wind, or water.

What do you have left? And are you willing to take those other things to the offering plate like the widow with her two coins?

“Instruct those who are rich in this present world not to be conceited or to fix their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly supplies us with all things to enjoy.
– 1 Timothy 6:17

Let God bring you what you need, and when He does, dedicate it to Him and His glory, and rejoice in it but hold on loosely. He’s the one who stilled the wind and the waves, and He’s our only hope. What a great hope to have! ❤️
