Beside Still Waters: The bond of peace

Therese Apel

“Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.” – Ephesians 4:2

Y’all might think I’m crazy, but I’ve gotten to where I go looking for beautiful things to take pictures of, almost just to show the world what God can do. I think it’s important when you find something worth sharing, that you do, because a lot of people just aren’t putting out a lot of beauty or love anymore.

This tree is at Keeneland Race Course in Kentucky, which is one of my favorite places on earth. It starts to turn all sorts of reds and oranges and yellows this time of year, and I can’t get enough of it.

The world questions us when we choose love and peace over offense and conflict. But God tells us to be different. God tells us to choose love instead of anger, patience instead of a hot temper, gentleness instead of rage.

A lot of people don’t understand the power of the spoken word. Words can bring life and death – God created the world with His words. What you say matters, from content to intent to tone.

“Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbor, for we are all members of one body. ‘In your anger do not sin’: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold.” – Ephesians 4:25-27
