Beside Still Waters: He is Faithful

“Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.” – Hebrews 10:23

If you’re sensing a theme in my devotionals, you’re probably right. The fact that God is here and He’s close even when I don’t feel Him is something He works with me on that every day because all my life, the devil has used loneliness against me to absolutely cripple my witness. It’s my Achille’s heel.

But God is faithful. Life will fool you — we’ve all had that moment when we were sure that all we do is give and give and nobody even notices, or we’re convinced that people leave our lives because of something incredibly, irreparably broken in us or wrong with us.

Even in those moments, God is sitting with you, but just like in any relationship, you have to reach out to Him. You don’t have to have the right words, you don’t have to know any answers — just reach out and sit in His presence.

The hope that we profess is a real and alive thing, just like our God is a real and alive God. We can hold unswervingly to Him because our human emotion is finite, but He is infinite.
Hebrews says again in verse 36: “You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.”

“You are not alone” sounds like a cliche, and the devil’s voice tries to convince us that “everybody says that, but where are they when I need them?” But God, who promised us all sorts of true and amazing things, said that, and He is faithful to keep those promises.

When the fear or loneliness or depression sets in, you can let it win, or you can remember that you have the strongest power in the Universe protecting and loving you no matter where you are. Hang in there. ❤️

“But we do not belong to those who shrink back and are destroyed, but to those who have faith and are saved.” – Hebrews 10:39
