Beside Still Waters: Do not grow weary in doing good

“Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.” – Galatians 6:7-10

I have so many friends that are just worn out. We sit and talk over lunch or on the phone or by text or at church about how there’s just never time for everything, and how we would love to just be able to hibernate for a little while. But there’s just no time — the world, with all its drama and all its busy lies, is calling.

Galatians 6:9 says not to be weary in doing good, but the world doesn’t give us a lot of options.

But here’s the promise that is meant to be our comfort: As verse 9 goes on, it tells us that in due time we will reap a harvest as long as we don’t give up.

Y’all, every day I want to give up. I feel like this instant gratification society makes it so hard to just relax and be proud of what you’re doing. There’s always a reason to keep rushing and running and fighting.

That’s why I’m trying so hard to remember each morning to go out and just sit in God‘s presence. Maybe what I have to do through the rest of the day is long and trying, but he told me not to grow weary in doing good. So this is where we meet to take a breather.

I highly recommend it. ❤️
