Clay County: Do you know this mystery horse?

Therese Apel

Do you know this horse? Call the Clay County Sheriff's Department!

We suspect there’s a little more to this story than the Clay County Sheriff’s Department posted on Facebook, but you know how those cops are with sharing details. It sounds like the roundup story is one for the books.

On Tuesday night, the department posted a photo of a gorgeous dark chestnut or liver brown horse with a white star and what appears to be small white patches on its back and possibly the dock of its tail. The chatter on the post says, “Horse owners, listen up! We’ve got a mystery horse that’s given one of our deputies a wild ride. Check your pastures and see if your spirited steed is MIA. Call the Sheriff’s Office to reunite.”

While there are 46 shares, surprisingly there were no comments on the post with any knowledge of where the horse came from. From the photo, it appears well-groomed and well-fed, so it doesn’t appear to be a stray.

We’ll update as soon as we can, but this story is being written before business hours, so we haven’t gotten anybody on the phone for more.
