Picayune police responded to an apparent murder/suicide late last week.

According to a release from the Picayune Police Department, a 911 call came in Thursday afternoon that the caller had shot her mother and needed help. The call came from outside Highland Community Hospital.

As officers were en route, the caller, Helena Malone, shot herself as well. Both were immediately taken into the emergency room, but both died of their injuries.

“This incident occurred inside of a vehicle near the emergency room drop off and no one else was injured,” PPD stated in the release. “Please pray for the family, Highland Community Hospital staff and officers as they investigate this situation.”
