A Tupelo man has been arrested and charged with vehicle burglary following a police response to a reported break-in on Columbine Drive.

On September 20, officers were dispatched to the Columbine Drive area after receiving reports of someone trying to break into parked vehicles.

Officers were able to locate the suspect nearby shortly after the report was made. During the arrest, authorities discovered that the suspect, 20-year-old Javalon T. Gandy of Tupelo, had an outstanding warrant from another jurisdiction.

After searching Gandy, officers found multiple items of stolen property in his possession, further implicating him in the burglary.

Following the investigation, Gandy was formally charged with burglary of a vehicle on September 20.

He appeared before Tupelo Municipal Court Judge Sumner, who set his bond at $15,000.

The case is now set to be presented to the Lee County Grand Jury for further proceedings.

The Tupelo Polie Department reminded local residents to lock their vehicles and avoid leaving valuables in plain sight to reduce the risk of theft.
