Jones County Woman Sentenced in Rental Assistance Fraud Scheme

State Auditor Shad White announced that Christy Gomez of Jones County has pleaded guilty to four counts of Organized Theft or Fraud Enterprise (RICO) charges related to defrauding state assistance programs.

From January 1, 2020, to December 31, 2022, Gomez illicitly obtained funds from the Rental Assistance for Mississippians Program (RAMP) operated by the Mississippi Home Corporation and the Mississippi Department of Employment Security.

“Our team of investigators worked tirelessly to uncover this scheme,” State Auditor Shad White stated. “We will continue to work alongside prosecutors to deliver record results for Mississippians.”

The 18th Judicial District Court of Mississippi sentenced Gomez to 13 years, with 8 years to serve and 5 years of probation, all counts to run concurrently. Additionally, she must repay $81,035.63 in restitution.
