Fire Crews Respond To Two Separate House Fires In Jones County

Morgan Howard

FIRE ON NORTHEAST DRIVE:
On Tuesday night, around 11:40 pm, Glade, Powers and M & M volunteer fire departments responded to a structure fire at 30 Northeast Drive in the Powers community in Jones County.
On arrival of the first fire personnel at the scene, firefighters found a single-story wood-framed house fully engulfed in flames.
No one was home at the time the incident began.
Firefighters immediately initiated a defensive fire attack (fighting the blaze from the outside of the home) due to structural compromise and roof collapse. The home had already sustained catastrophic damage prior to the arrival of fire personnel.
The Jones County Sheriff’s Department was also on scene and will be investigating the incident.
FIRE ON GLADE PAULDING ROAD:
Just before 8:00 am Wednesday morning, firefighters from those same departments responded to an electrical fire at 111 Glade Paulding Road.
On arrival at this scene, firefighters found a wall in the home that had a small area that had burned near an electrical outlet that had powered a space heater.
The occupants of the home were awakened by the home’s smoke detectors and noticed smoke in the home.
They were able to extinguish the fire but one was injured in the process. Firefighters checked for any hidden hot spots and provided first aid to the injured individual.
Emserv Ambulance Service also responded and treated the injured, but did not transport to the emergency department.
The Jones County Fire Council would like to encourage everyone to make sure you all have functional smoke detectors inside your homes and to change the batteries twice a year when the time changes. Smoke detectors really do save lives, as this call demonstrated.
