12-Year-Old Accidentally Shoots Younger Brother In Head While Hunting Rabbits In Jones County

Jones County Sheriff’s Department is investigating after an 11-year-old was shot in the head in a hunting accident that happened Saturday evening.
At 9:36 p.m., a call was made to the sheriff’s department about a person who had been shot on Alex Knight Road in southern Jones County.
When officers arrived, Jones County Sgt. Cody Pitts learned that an 11-year-old boy was shot in the head with a .22 caliber rifle by his 12-year-old sister while hunting rabbits.
The pair’s 19-year-old step-brother was with the two kids at the time of the incident.
The eleven-year-old boy sustained critical, life-threatening injuries and was transported by EMServ Ambulance Service to Forrest General Hospital for treatment.
Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, & Parks was notified of the hunting incident and responded to the scene and is the primary agency investigating the incident.
The Jones County Sheriff’s Department is also investigating as the secondary agency.
Names of the victim and his sister are being withheld due to their age.
