Pedestrian killed when hit by a car in Hattiesburg

Hattiesburg police say a man was killed when he was hit by a car on Sunday.

A release from HPD says that police received a call of a pedestrian hit by a vehicle on Highway 49 near J.M. Tatum Industrial Drive. Around 6:15 a.m., a 2005 Nissan Maxima was traveling north on 49 when it hit the man, who was in the middle of the roadway.

The man was prounounced dead at the scene by Forrest County Deputy Coroner Tony Robertson. The man’s identity is not being released yet, pending notification of next of kin.

Police say the driver did stop at the scene, and is continuing to cooperate with the investigation.
