Wednesday: More shots fired in Jackson, more people injured

Once again, multiple shooting incidents around the capital city kept Jackson police department running Tuesday afternoon through early morning Wednesday.

Incident reports obtained by Darkhorse Press show four separate incidents of shootings in Jackson.

1. On Tuesday at 3:55 p.m., officers responded to 2906 Logwood Drive on a shooting call. There they found a 15-year-old black male suffering from a single gunshot wound to the right arm. The victim stated him and his friends were walking on Bienville Drive when gunshots came from a black Nissan Altima. He said he and his friends ran different ways at the time of the shooting. The victim was transported to the University of Mississippi Medical Center by AMR. A passerby said several males ran to an address on Teakwood Drive with firearm.

Officers found three male juveniles at 1843 Teakwood Drive. It was determined that the three juveniles were friends with the victim and they all were together at the time of the shooting. Police took three firearms from 1843 Teakwood Drive.

2. On Tuesday around 4:11 p.m., Jackson police responded to Raymond Road and Camellia Lane in reference to a shooting into a vehicle call. Upon the first officer’s arrival, he made contact with a female victim. She said she was traveling west on Raymond Road when she heard gunfire, and once she arrived home, she noticed approximately nine bullet holes in her 2018 Honda CRV. The victim said she did not observe anyone shooting. The Robbery/Homicide division and Mobile Crime Scene were notified of the incident. The victim was not hurt.

3. On Wednesday morning just after midnight, Precinct 2 officers responded to 1253 Woodvillage Drive for a shooting. Once on scene, police found a female who said that her 15-year-old daughter was shot and was transported to Merit Health Hospital by private vehicle. Police found that the 15-year girl was shot in the chest while lying in bed. She is listed as stable, but her condition is unclear. Robbery/Homicide and Mobile Crime were contacted.

4. Wednesday around 2:56 a.m., an officer responded to UMMC for a victim who had been shot. Upon arrival the officer made contact with the complainant, who stated that he was traveling eastbound on Forest Avenue from Watkins Drive onto Hanging Moss Drive when he heard gunshots. As he approached the area of Forest Avenue near Locksley Dr., he heard bullets striking his vehicle on the driver’s side.

The victim himself was struck three times to the body: once in the right tricep, lower right hip region, and right ankle. The victim was able to drive to 570 East Northside Drive before realizing that he had been shot. The victim was taken to UMMC by private vehicle. His vehicle, a white in color Jeep Cherokee had gunshots to the driver, passenger and rear of the vehicle. Mobile Crime and Robbery/Homicide responded to UMMC. The victim’s injuries have been determined to be non-life threatening.
