Early Wednesday morning, Ward’s restaurant in Leakesville had an unexpected and unwelcome guest when a vehicle crashed into the building.

According to Greene County Sheriff Ryan Walley, deputies responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash at 2:20 a.m. Upon arrival, they discovered that the vehicle had struck the restaurant. The driver fled the scene but was later apprehended and taken to a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

After receiving medical treatment, the driver was released and transported to the Greene County Jail. He was later released on a medical bond.

Sheriff Walley did not disclose the name of the suspect or specify any charges that might have been filed.
