On Friday afternoon, Mississippi Highway Patrol Trooper John Harris was killed when he was struck by a large vehicle on Highway 16 in Madison County.

Harris leaves behind his wife Kate, and his two small children. The tragedy has reverberated to every corner of the law enforcement community in Mississippi, and far beyond.

Warriors By Grace Ministries, owned and operated by fellow Trooper Bubba Holifield, has started a Facebook fundraiser with a goal of $10,000 to help take care of Harris’s family.

Holifield was shot in the line of duty in 2016, in an incident that claimed the life of MBN agent Lee Tartt, and left fellow troopers Trea Staples and DeAndre Dixon injured as well.

Holifield posted this on his page:

“As many of you know, we lost an outstanding trooper yesterday! John Harris was a great guy and an amazing trooper! He loved his job more than anyone I know. Yesterday he was struck by a truck and lost his life doing what he loved. When I got shot in 2016, many people raised money for me. I want to return the favor to my brother by helping his family in this tragic time of their life! Help if you can! 100% will go to help Trooper John Harris’s family.”

You can find the Facebook fundraiser here.

Additionally, there is a GoFundMe page set up by DPS Commissioner Sean Tindell here.
