Guns-N-Gear, a local business in Madison, donated 7 pallets of water to Rolling Fork, Mississippi, after they were ravaged by a tornado.
They loaded the 13,440 bottles of water, which equals over 1,774.5 gallons of clean drinking water for residents.
When we asked why the business wanted to help, the owner of Guns-N-Gear, Hunter Sartain stated:
“I do this because it is a calling. I was a paramedic in my previous career for over a decade and had the opportunity to work all over the state of Mississippi helping people. I’m really no different than any other person with a heart and calling to help their fellow man.”
Hunter Sartain said that back in 2005, when he was 19 years old, he was sent to the Mississippi Gulf Coast the day before Hurricane Katrina made landfall. He said that his partner and he rode out Katrina in the old D’lberville high school. He saw a lot of destruction then, and the destruction the tornadoes left behind reminded him of that.
“As a business owner, I feel it is important to be a part of the response because, like so many others out here I have the ability, knowledge, & equipment to help & make a difference. I also feel that at the end of the day, it’s not all about what you have but more about what good you can do with what you have.”
Sartain has a five-ton truck, and he said this is the perfect opportunity to use it to help others.
“Often people see me out in this truck which is a give-ton and they usually say why do you have this? My normal answer is usually why not? But this is the real reason… to do stuff to help that a normal vehicle isn’t able to do. To help in situations like these that unfortunately happened like carry 12,500 pounds of water in the bed.”
The business also said if you would like to donate items for them to bring to Rolling Fork, you can drop them off at their store. The store is located at 1716 Highway 51, Madison, Mississippi 39110.
