Smith County man killed in hunting accident Friday

A release from the Smith County Sheriff’s Department states that at around 5:30 p.m. Friday, deputies received a 911 call about a hunting accident on Forestry Service Road 516.

First responders arrived on the scene and learned that a male subject had sustained a gunshot wound while hunting. Unfortunately, the wounds proved fatal. This incident is being investigated by the MS Department of Wildlife Fisheries and Parks with the assistance of the Smith County Sheriff’s Office.

Family members on social media identified the man as Eric Spud Tindell, 41. Read his obituary at MageeNews.com.

Visitation will be held at Tutor Funeral Home in Mendenhall, MS, 3035 Highway 13 South, on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The funeral service will be at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at Hickory Ridge Baptist Church, 319 Hickory Ridge Road, Florence, MS 39073, with interment to follow in Harrisville Cemetery. Bro. Terry Fant and Bro. Gerald Young will officiate the service.
