According to a report from The New York Times, Sheriff Bryan Bailey allegedly used the District Attorney’s Office to spy on his girlfriend through phone records.
The Times states that Bailey subpoenaed the phone records of a school district employee he thought his married girlfriend might be cheating on him with by telling the office of then-DA Michael Guest that there was potential wrongdoing at the school district.
Guest compiled an investigative report that showed evidence that Bailey had misled the DA’s office, potentially committing felony fraud in the process. Since he and Bailey had been friends and worked together for years, The Times says Guest turned the investigation over to then-Attorney General Jim Hood’s office.
It seemed to die there.
