Therese Apel

On Friday evening around 10:15 p.m., the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department received a report of a one vehicle accident with ejection in the 2000 block of Shell Oil Road.

Rankin County Deputies along with the Shell Road Fire Department, Pafford Ambulance and Rankin County EOC responded to the scene. Once on scene, deputies found that a 2007 Chevy Impala appeared to have left the roadway and flipped. The driver was ejected from the vehicle during the crash and suffered serious injuries. Despite the efforts of Shell Road Fire Department and Pafford Medics, the injuries were too severe and the driver passed away at the scene.

Rankin County Coroner David Ruth responded to the accident scene and recovered the victim’s body.

The accident is currently under investigation by Rankin County Deputies. Speed is being considered as a factor in the accident.

Sheriff Bryan Bailey says that speeding is the number one complaint the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office receives. The complaints come from every part of the county.

In a press release, Bailey reminded constituents that the Mississippi Legislature currently does not allow Mississippi Sheriff’s Departments to run radar. Bailey also asked all citizens to please buckle up and slow down.
