Perry County authorities seized a record amount of crystal meth amphetamine on Saturday.
Deputies were conducting a driver’s license check-point on Whitfield Road at Hancock Road when a man came through the check-point allegedly transporting a large amount of what appeared to be crystal meth.
Forrest County Sheriff’s Office responded to assist with their K-9 unit.
After weighing the substance, investigators determined it to be approximately 1 pound and 4 ounces of what was believed to be Crystal Meth. Police also gathered two guns and approximately $3,700. The street value of the illegal narcotics would be approximately $25,000.
Johnny Freddrick Smith, 44, was charged with felony drug trafficking and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
He was brought before the Justice Court Judge and a $151,000 bond was set.
