Pascagoula Man Arrested After Construction Worker Hit, Killed While Working On Bridge

According to the Moss Point Police Department, on February 8, at 7:00 a.m., officers with the Moss Point Police Department were dispatched to the northbound lanes of the Highway 63 Bridge, for a motor vehicle crash, in which a pedestrian had been struck.

The vehicle involved in the crash left the scene before officers arrived.

The victim, identified as 52-year-old Francisco Villegas of Franklin, NC, was part of a construction crew contracted to work on the bridge. He died on scene as a result of his injuries.

At approximately 8:28 a.m., Moss Point Police received a phone call regarding the whereabouts of the individual driving the vehicle involved in the crash.

The driver spoke with dispatch and advised he wanted to turn himself into authorities. Moss Point Police officers and detectives met with the driver, identified as 21-year-old Octavius Weber of Pascagoula.

Weber was taken into custody and arrested without incident on the charge of Leaving the Scene of an Accident Causing Injury or Death.
