A man is dead after a vehicle pulled up next to the car he was riding in and shot him as they drove down I-55.

Copiah County coroner Ellis Stuart said 31-year old Trakia Roderick Richmond of Crystal Springs was in the passenger side of a vehicle headed northbound on the interstate just south of Gallman when another vehicle pulled alongside and emptied around 20 rounds into the car he was riding in.

Stuart said the driver was also struck, but was able to make it to the Gallman exit. He pulled up into the parking lot of Stuckey‘s to call for help.

Richmond was pronounced dead on the scene. The driver was taken to a local hospital.

Mississippi Bureau Investigation is working the case, and Richmond‘s body has been sent to the State Crime Lab for autopsy.
